Climate activists in Germany blocked plane traffic at two airports on Thursday by gluing themselves to the runways in protest against mass transit pollution, causing hours of delays and dozens of cancelations.
âThe Last Generation isnât protecting the climate, theyâre engaged in criminal activity,â Transport Minister Volker Wissing said.
Last Generation, the group behind the protest, demanded tougher government action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and immediate plans to cut emissions in the transportation sector, accusing officials of lacking a strategy to tackle climate crisis.
Adding to the airport disruptions the activists on Friday targeted traffic in Munich.
Reuters reported one member of the group concreted himself to the street while others stuck themselves to it, using what looked like to be the same method adopted in Thursdayâs airport disruptions.
This follows a similar protest in April, during which the group glued themselves the streets of Berlin to block traffic to the Alps, again looking to disrupt any holiday plans residents and travelers had.
âInstead of presenting a concrete plan to prevent this and to reach the emissions-reduction target called for by law, the Transport Ministry is relying on âtechnological flexibility,’â the group wrote in a statement following the airport protests.
I think they ought to just run over them if they insist on staying on the runways. At the very least they need to be removed quickly.
