Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, formerly Facebook, has had his fortune plummet by more than 50% this year: in 2020, his fortune was valued at $87 billion, it rose to $142 billion in 2021 when he was listed as the 3rd wealthiest person in the world, but currently his wealth is estimated $55 billion in 2022.
The proposed law includes a 30-day notice to users when their account has been blocked and tech companies may be sued by individuals for violating the law’s tenets. Penalties related to interference in elections include a $100,000 daily fine levied against any company that deplatforms political candidates.
Facebook’s “Hate Agent Policy Review” document reveals “signals” that include praising the wrong individual, appearing at events alongside them, possessing “hate paraphernalia,” and certain tattoos. Facebook will categorize people as a hate agent for “statements made in private but later made public.”
