On July 26, 2023, there was a military coup in Niger, West Africa that usurped President Mohamed Bazoum, who is under house arrest. Many countries in Africa are now standing up against the West. Russia President Putin has made military deals and trade deals all across Africa and protestors are raising Russian flags across the continent. The West is on high alert and is sending weapons and troops to the border of Niger. Africa is on the brink of a revolution.

The map of African countries that have signed military agreements with Russia shows that the US is risking another serious proxy war with Russia.

Niger reportedly signed a contract with the controversial Wagner Group of Russia for security. Journalist Clayton Morris said that Niger was joined by Senegal in rising up against Western imperialism. Africans want to have control over their own resources that includes uranium, phosphate and other minerals.

The coup in Niger threatens the Nigeria-Morocco natural gas pipeline project that is planned to supply gas to Europe. Niger is a major back-up source for uranium. The people of Niger have been promised that they will benefit from their country’s resources. Intervention in Niger could turn into a major regional war as Burkina Faso and Mali have warned they would consider the action a declaration of war on them. Meanwhile, the US and France have backed threats from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to oust the anti-Western Niger junta, and each has over 1,000 troops in the country.

The ECOWAS is a 15-nation bloc, but several of its members have been suspended due to military coups, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and now Niger.

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who is number two under Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, is best known for her central role in the 2014 Ukraine coup that overthrew an elected government. In an act of monumental hypocrisy, she recently traveled to Niger to warn the post-coup government to return to constitutional order. No one in authority was interested in meeting with her.
