The contested election is not over. Several states sent Republican Electors to cast alternate votes. Vice President Pence will have full authority as president of the Senate on January 6, the day the Electoral votes are officially counted, and he will accept or reject motions to decide the next steps. If that happens, President Trump could be reelected by Congress because each state represented in the House is allowed only one vote, and the majority of state delegations are Republican.
In another scenario, litigation in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Arizona may result in more Electoral votes for Trump, who has 232 votes at this time.
Finally, Trump signed an executive order giving himself power to invoke the Insurrection Act, which amounts to martial law, if there was foreign interference in the election. The fact that the presidential votes were counted by machines outside the United States and operated by non-US companies is sufficient basis for the claim of foreign interference. -GEG
