Menendez’ wife, Nadine, was also charged, but her trial date has been delayed to March 18, following a diagnosis of breast cancer. According to the second video, Nadine struck and killed a pedestrian with her car in 2018 before she was married to Menendez; she was not tested for drugs or alcohol. The initial bribe was alleged to have been a Mercedes replacement car for her in exchange for the former Senator’s interference in the prosecution of one of his co-defendant’s business associates.

Former New Jersey senator Bob Menendez has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for taking part in a bribery scheme that netted him gold bars, thousands in cash, a luxury car and more.
The plan, which involved the ex-senator’s wife Nadine and multiple businessmen, saw the Democrat handing out favors for those who could pay his price.
Formerly the powerful chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Menendez, 71, in July was found guilty on all 16 felony counts he faced for crimes related to the illegal favors he doled out.
He was bribed by New Jersey businessmen and did the bidding of Egypt and Qatar, U.S. federal prosecutors claimed.
It is the first time a senator has been found guilty of acting as a ‘foreign agent.’

Menendez, an influential Democratic senator from New Jersey for nearly two decades before resigning in disgrace in August 2024, reportedly began crying at the hearing.
‘Your honor, You have before you a chastened man,’ said the tearful Democrat who just months ago was roaming the halls of Congress.
‘I have dedicated my entire life to the service of others,’ he continued. ‘I am far from a perfect man, but I believe in my half century of public service I have done more good than bad.’
But Manhattan federal judge Sidney Stein wasn’t buying the waterworks, the New York Post reported.
‘Somewhere along the way you became, I’m sorry to say, a corrupt politician,’ Stein told the former senator.
Menendez used his high-profile position to help one man negotiate a contract with Egyptian officials, the federal attorneys argued.
And he used his to quash a New Jersey state investigation into another accomplice’s state insurance fraud case, they said.
During a June 2022 FBI raid of his Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, home authorities discovered 13 gold bars and close to $500,000 in cash stuffed in coats and shoes and stored in safes and closets.
At his trial the Democrat’s older sister claimed storing thousands of dollars of valuables haphazardly around the house was a ‘Cuban thing.’
His defense also attempted to note the 71-year-old hordes money because his family’s experience with Communism in Cuba before immigrating to the U.S., though Menendez himself was born in New York after his family had already arrived.
In addition to the cash and gold prosecutors also alleged that Nadine Menendez’s Mercedes-Benz was also a bribe.
Two of the New Jersey businessmen indicted alongside the Menendezes, Wael ‘Will’ Hana – a halal meat mogul – and Fred Daibes – a real estate developer – also were sentenced on Wednesday.
Jose Uribe, a former insurance broker, pleaded guilty in the case earlier this year and since has testified that he bribed the Menendezes.
‘I agreed with Nadine Menendez and other people to provide a car for Nadine in order to get the power and influence of Mr. Menendez,’ Uribe told the court.

I think being a foreign agent is really treason or should be treason. He got off way too lightly. There’s still nothing close to justice here.
