Minneapolis: A black man, who had reportedly killed someone earlier in the day, shot himself in the head in an incident that had nothing whatsoever to do with police brutality. However, hundreds of people rioted anyway. The incident was captured on city surveillance video and released by police within 90 minutes, nonetheless, the suicide was still used as an excuse for looting and destruction. Gunshots were heard before the mob began breaking windows, setting fire to businesses, and attempting to loot Target and several other stores. The National Guard subsequently had to be called out to restore order.

Riots broke out in Minneapolis, and fire crews responded to 30 intentionally set blazes during the protests, including at least 16 structure fires. Violence spread a few miles away to a Target store in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood where police said 50 to 60 people rushed the store attempting to loot it.
Police were reportedly told to stand down during the ensuing riots. Many people were shot, mostly by other looters. Authorities took action only after finding van filled with explosives. Reporter Elijah Schaffer, who was beaten and threatened with a gun, says that he was attacked because he is white.
The NYPD said that several officers sustained injuries, including one who was struck in the head with a garbage can and another who was punched in the face. Protesters shut down the street around police headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.
