Last Friday, Iran’s National Oil Company reported that explosions ignited a fire on one of its tankers off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Following the news of the attack against Iran, the US announced that it will send 3,000 ground troops and two squadrons of fighter jets to Saudi Arabia to “confront” Iran.
A poll from Hill-HarrisX revealed that Americans from all parties are against going to war with Iran: 58% of voters polled preferred a non-military response to Iran’s shooting down of a US spy drone, 49% said they wanted a negotiated end to the recent hostilities while 9% said that Trump should make no action.
An American surveillance drone was shot down by Iranian forces and Trump was set to strike three sites in Iran but he reversed course after military leaders disclosed that 150 people would likely be killed. Trump wrote that it would not be a proportionate response to downing a drone that did not have anyone on board.
