A number of sheriffs around the state, including those from Spokane, Chelan, Stevens, Douglas, Benton, Adams, and Lewis counties, have refused to enforce the law because, in their view, it violates the Second Amendment. In response, threats to kill these sheriffs and all Republicans were posted on Facebook.
A NJ housing developer issued a notice to its renters advising them that “No one will be permitted to store, or carry a gun or rifle, or any other type of firearm of any kind in the building, or on the grounds.” If a firearm is discovered, they say they will evict. [Before you say that the owner can set whatever rules he wishes on his own property, would you approve if the owner ordered you to speak only a certain language or to refrain from reading certain religious books while on his property?]
Rapper, Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, made a music video called This Is America that features him shooting a black choir with an automatic rifle. It’s not clear exactly what the message of the video is supposed to be – if there even is a message – but the take away is that bizarre body gyrations and random murder is … well, America. We are waiting to see if YouTube or Go Daddy will feel moral outrage by this normalization of murder and close down Glover’s Internet access.
Travis Reinking, 29, was arrested for shooting and killing four people with an AR-15 style rifle at a Waffle House restaurant in the early morning hours on Sunday. Reinking was mentally unstable, stole a BMW from a dealership days before the shooting and was arrested last year by the Secret Service for trying to access a restricted area at the White House. After that, his firearms authorization was revoked at the request of the FBI, and four weapons were seized, including the AR-15 that was used in the shooting.
New York: Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying pressure state banks and insurance companies from doing business with the NRA and firearms manufacturers. He sent a letter urging “all insurance companies and banks doing business in New York to join the companies that have already discontinued their arrangements with the NRA, gun industry, or other promoters of guns,” stopping just short of threats and punishment.
Bank of America announced it will not lend money to some gun makers just weeks after Citigroup announced that it will not do business with retailers unless they restrict gun sales. Powerful companies like BofA and Citigroup can make sweeping changes to America without a single political vote being cast. Political activists lobby big companies in secret. You might not even know it’s happening, yet it can affect your life immensely, as much as any federal law. Ideological differences are punished in the marketplace.
Republican Virginia State Representative, Nick Freitas, a strong supporter of gun rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment, gave a jaw-dropping speech opposing Democrats who are calling for gun control while refusing to consider arming teachers. In response to the pretended outrage by Democrats over NRA donations to Republicans, Freitas challenges them to compare those to similar donations to Democrats from Planned Parenthood. If you enjoy seeing hypocrisy exposed, you will love this speech.
John Cardillo attended the memorial for the Florida shooting victims and said that a teacher, Sarah Lerner, was text messaging students on their personal cell phones, encouraging them to attend an anti-gun rally. He says that some of the students who he spoke with were upset that the event is being politicized and many students support the Second Amendment.
Students from the Florida High School where the recent shooting took place are calling for gun control, even though Nikolas Cruz passed a background check and obtained his AR-15 gun legally. The gun control lobby is now recruiting young students, especially those who are approaching the age of 18 [and eligible to vote] for their newest campaign, ‘March for Our Lives’, which will include a march on Washington and student protests across the country on March 24th.
