When grown in soil, the soil should be nutriently dense as should be the case with the organic program. Unfortunately, most soils are pretty depleted from conventional methods and the plants are supplied only basic nutrients with supplemental chemical fertilizers. The result is less nutritious food. Hydroponics is a more or less duplication of the conventional methods without the soil. The supplemented nutrition has to be water soluble and should contain micro nutrients as well as macro nutrients. But most fertilizers available do not do that.
