Christine Hallquist, 62, a transgender person and a former CEO of an electric company, was nominated by the Democrat party as its candidate for Governor. When asked about supporting socialism, Hallquist replied, “I’m not sure I even know what socialism is. I just don’t have the background to answer that question,” adding that our democracy is threatened. -GEG

Christine Hallquist became the first transgender person to win a major party nomination for governor of a state. Joining CNN Wednesday morning from that state of Vermont, Hallquist admitted, “I’m not sure I even know what socialism is,” when asked about the economic system.

Hallquist was asked a number of economic questions by the CNN anchor after declaring that rural economic development was a top priority for the campaign. “It is about economic growth for the bottom 20 percent on the economic ladder,” Hallquist said.

The host asked Hallquist’s views of capitalism and socialism, specifically citing that “for the first time, more Democrats viewed socialism favorably than capitalism.”

“I’m not big on labels, I find labels are used to separate people,” Hallquist said in response, “I look at the platform of a living wage and healthcare for all — that is called civilized society. I don’t even know how that became ‘socialism’ or Republican or Democrat — let’s be a civilized society.”

Regarding the Vermont Governor candidate, how does someone who was CEO of an electric company no know what capitalism is and even worse not know what Socialism is? Obviously the people of Vermont are just as clueless if they vote this person for Governor of one of their towns.

This country is in a whole lot of trouble with candidates and voters who are this ignorant of the things that can destroy this economy and indeed this nation!

Our government is NOT a “democracy”, it is a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC which is very different. We have only one PARTIALLY democratic process which is elections. The framers who created the USA said much about how bad a “democracy” is. Alexander Hamilton: “We are a Republican Government. Real liberty is never found in despotism or in the extremes of Democracy.” Thomas Jefferson… Read more »
