House Passes Resolution Stating ‘Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Semitism’

Representative Thomas Massie was the single Republican vote against a House Resolution that conflates anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism; he says it restricts free speech. There is concern that this will influence public policy and usher in more internet and social media censorship. The resolution passed 311 to 14, with 92 members voting “present,” among them eight of the 24 Jewish Democrats in the House. The Torah Jews disagreed with the resolution as they commented on X that there are over 200 synagogues in their community that officially disavow Zionism.

.

.

The House on Tuesday passed a resolution that says “anti-Zionism is antisemitism,” the chamber’s latest piece of legislation conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism.

The resolution, which is presented as a resolution condemning antisemitism, passed in a vote of 314-14-92. Only thirteen Democrats and one Republican voted against the legislation, while 92 Democrats voted “present” in protest of a line buried in the bill that explicitly claims anti-Zionism is antisemitism.

The Republican-drafted resolution declares that the House of Representatives “clearly and firmly states that anti-Zionism is antisemitism.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the most senior Jewish member of the House, criticized the language of the bill ahead of the vote. “The resolution suggests that ALL anti-Zionism is antisemitism. That is either intellectually disingenuous or just factually wrong. And it unfairly implicates many of my orthodox former constituents in Brooklyn, many of whose families rose from the ashes of the Holocaust,” he said.

Nadler claimed that “most anti-Zionism is antisemitism” but added that if authors of the bill “were at all familiar with Jewish history and culture, should know about Jewish anti-Zionism that was, and is, expressly NOT antisemitic.”

“This resolution ignores the fact that even today, certain orthodox Hasidic Jewish communities—the Satmars in New York and others—as well as adherents of the pre-state Jewish labor movement have held views that are at odds with the modern Zionist conception,” he said.

While coming out strongly against the language, Nadler voted “present” instead of “no.” The thirteen Democrats who voted against the bill include Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Cori Bush (D-MO), Gerald E. Connolly (D-VA), Jesús García (D-IL), Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Summer Lee (D-PA), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Delia Ramirez (D-IL), Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the only Republican to vote against the bill. Last week, he was the lone member of Congress to vote against a resolution that claimed “denying Israel’s right to exist is a form of antisemitism.” Explaining his opposition, Massie said the resolution also equated anti-Zionism with antisemitism, although not as explicitly as the bill passed on Tuesday.

Canadian Parliamentary Speaker Resigned After Publicly Praising a Nazi

Canada: During a parliamentary meeting honoring Ukrainian President Zelensky, Canadian Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota publicly praised a 98-year old Ukrainian veteran who fought for a Nazi military unit during World War II. Rota resigned from his post on Tuesday and apologized to Jewish communities worldwide. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to distance himself from the incident.

OTTAWA, Sept 26 (Reuters) – The speaker of Canada’s House of Commons lower chamber on Tuesday said he would quit, a few days after he publicly praised a former Nazi soldier in Parliament in an incident that Russia said helped justify its war on Ukraine.

Anthony Rota told legislators he had made a mistake by inviting ex-soldier Yaroslav Hunka, 98, to attend a session in the House honoring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last Friday. Rota publicly recognised Hunka, calling him a hero.

The speaker’s position rapidly become untenable after it emerged that Hunka, who received two standing ovations from lawmakers, had served in one of Adolf Hitler’s Waffen SS units during World War Two. Russia called the incident outrageous.

“That public recognition has caused pain to individuals and communities, including the Jewish community in Canada and around the world … I accept full responsibility for my actions,” said Rota, a member of the ruling Liberal party, adding his resignation would take effect on Wednesday. Until then a deputy speaker will be in charge.

The episode played into the narrative promoted by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he sent his army into Ukraine last year to “demilitarise and denazify” the country, a charge Kyiv and Western allies say is baseless.

The furor helped tarnish the visit by Zelenskiy, who thanked Canada for the billion of dollars in aid and weapons it has provided since Russia invaded in February 2022.

Foreign Minister Melanie Joly earlier said Rota should resign while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on him to ponder his future.

Ecstasy Should Be Used to ‘Cure’ People of Their ‘Hateful’ And ‘Anti-Semitic’ Beliefs – Jewish Daily Forward

The Jewish Daily Forward says that MDMA, the drug known as Ecstasy or Molly, should be used to “cure” people of their “hateful” and “anti-Semitic” beliefs. The Jewish Daily Forward wrote, “At a time when hate, extremism and intolerance threaten to tear America apart, it is mind-boggling that we are not pushing to better understand how MDMA and other psychedelics can bring people together, or aid efforts to deradicalize people lost to hate.”

.

The Jewish Daily Forward (Archive):

Can we cure antisemitism with Molly?

by Rob Eshman, Senior Contributing Editor | July 15, 2023

If you learned that a single pill had led a neo-Nazi to renounce his hateful beliefs, would you:

– Demand more research to find out if the pill really works
– Ignore existing evidence and continue to outlaw the pill?

If you picked the second option, congratulations: You’ve just described the folly of American drug policy for the past 40 years.

We’ve long known that MDMA, more popularly known as Molly or Ecstasy, is an effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Israel has used it for this purpose since 2019.

But there is also some preliminary evidence that the drug can turn haters into lovers, making it a powerful potential tool for deradicalization.

The FDA is expected to approve MDMA and psilocybin, also known as psychedelic mushrooms, for PTSD therapy within the next two years. But further progress on more experimental fronts has long been delayed by regulatory hurdles.

At a time when hate, extremism and intolerance threaten to tear America apart, it is mind-boggling that we are not pushing to better understand how MDMA and other psychedelics can bring people together, or aid efforts to deradicalize people lost to hate.

How MDMA changed one neo-Nazi

The most promising evidence of MDMA’s effects on hate was discovered by accident. During the conclusion of a 2020 University of Chicago double blind study on the effect of MDMA on social touch, one participant known as “Brandon” revealed to researchers that he led the Midwest branch of Identity Evropa, a white nationalist group that played a key role in the 2017 “Unite the Right!” rally — and that taking MDMA had led him to a life-changing revelation.

“Love is the most important thing,” he told a stunned researcher, who followed up. “Nothing matters without love.”

Eshman lamented how MDMA is banned as a Schedule I drug in America and detailed how other Jewish academics at Yale in Connecticut and Hebrew University in Israel are researching drugging people with the powerful hallucinogen to fight anti-Semitism.

[Natalie Lyla Ginsberg, MAPS global impact officer], a Yale graduate whose time as a social worker exposed her to the injustices of the drug war, runs the annual Jewish Psychedelic Summit, which connects doctors, rabbis, therapists and others in an online “global conversation” about the connections between psychedelics and Judaism. She is working with researchers at Hebrew University to develop metrics for exploring MDMA’s use in conflict resolution between Palestinians and Israelis. But she and Nuwer say preliminary results point to a big caveat in psychedelic research in general, and MDMA in particular: it’s not magic.

Intention, said Nuwer, is everything. Couples need to go into MDMA therapy looking to heal their relationship. Addicts need to want to kick their habits — in which case MDMA has proven to be far more effective than traditional therapies. Cult members need to be ready to leave their cults.

And former white supremacists like Brandon need to be open to change.

Before taking part in the study, Brandon had already been outed as an extremist and had been fired from his job because of it. His family was no longer talking to him. He wanted a new life.

Congress is already working on legalizing the drug for research purposes.

First Amendment Under Attack in Florida: Bill Requires Bloggers Register with State and New Hate Crime Bill Introduced

Florida state Senator Jason Brodeur has proposed a bill that would require bloggers to file reports with the state if they are paid for posts about the state’s governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet members or legislative officials. Newspapers would not be subject to the same rules. Republican Newt Gingrich wrote, “The idea that bloggers criticizing a politician should register with the government is insane.”
UPDATE:   Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., pushed back against mainstream media framing him as a supporter of Florida bill that would require bloggers to register with the state. | Fox News

In another assault on the First Amendment, Florida state Representative Mike Caruso introduced a new bill that “makes anti-Semitism a hate crime.” Reporter Chris Nelson wrote: “If Florida HB 269 is passed, someone who makes fun of another person’s clothes if they are considered “ethnic or religious” can be arrested & charged with a THIRD DEGREE FELONY AND HATE CRIME!” The new proposal was reportedly put forward by the GOP to silence the “Goyim Defense League” that has been sharing flyers in Florida neighborhoods and holding up anti-Semitic banners over bridges that are critical of Jews.

.

From the Associated Press:

A new bill filed by Senator Jason Brodeur proposes to require bloggers who write about elected officials would have to disclose who paid them and how much, along with other information such as where the post is located online. They would be fined $25 per each day the report is late, up to a maximum of $2,500 for each report. The legislation would not apply to content on “the website of a newspaper or other similar publication.”

FBI Used Discredited SPLC to Paint Catholics as Extremists, Anti-LGBTQ and Anti-Semites

Kyle Seraphin, who worked for the FBI for six years and then became a whistleblower, revealed that the FBI is asserting that white supremacy has taken root in Catholics who prefer Latin Mass. The FBI’s Richmond, VA office published a bulletin from information from the widely debunked Southern Poverty Law Center. The FBI classifies Catholics who prefer Latin Mass as “Radical-Traditionalist Catholics,” and paint them as having an “adherence to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology.” The document recommended that the FBI could mitigate the threat of Radical-Traditionalist Catholics by recruiting sources within the Catholic Church as assets. The bulletin shows that the FBI is actively using a citizen’s Catholic faith as a litmus test for their political ideology and likelihood of being a public threat. The FBI bulletin indicates that opposing abortion is a facet of white supremacy.

The FBI admitted to authoring the bulletin and responded by essentially writing that the bulletin was disseminated only within the FBI and that the document “does not meet the exacting standards of the FBI” for ethnically motivated violent extremism.

.

.

The FBI believes that white supremacy has taken root in Catholics who prefer Latin Mass, reports whistleblower Kyle Seraphin on UncoverDC. The FBI’s Richmond, VA office took their findings from the widely debunked Southern Poverty Law Center, which was cited in an intelligence bulletin.

In essence, Catholics who prefer Latin Mass who are classified as “Radical-Traditionalist Catholics,” per the FBI, are painted as having an “adherence to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology.” The writer of the bulletin classifies RTCs as “typically characterized by the rejection of the Second Vatican Council.”

Seraphin, who was indefinitely suspended from the FBI in June 2022 after six years with the agency, said that “An intelligence analyst within the Richmond Field Office of the FBI released in a new finished intelligence product dated January 23, 2023, on Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists (RMVE) and their interests in ‘Radical-Traditionalist Catholics’ or RTCs. The document assesses with ‘high confidence’ the FBI can mitigate the threat of Radical-Traditionalist Catholics by recruiting sources within the Catholic Church.”

The sources cited on that bulletin include articles from the SPLC, as well as the SPLC’s list of “Radical Traditional Catholicism Hate Groups.” It was the SPLC that the writer of the bulletin used, Seraphin states, to determine that this group of Catholics are white supremacist, LGBTQ-phobic, misogynistic anti-Semites. Speaking to The Daily Signal, Seraphin said “We got briefings that SPLC was not legitimate when I was at Quantico.”

The other two sources listed for the bulletin are Salon and The Atlantic.

When the SPLC came after journalist Andy Ngo, editor-at-large with The Post Millennial, he replied to their request for comment by saying “Reputational slandering is a Southern Poverty Law Center smear tactic. Not content to impugn by guilt of association, you resort to guilt by implication now.” That is the tactic with this bulletin, as well.

The SPLC has a history of defaming people based on their religion. In June 2018 they had to publicly apologize to Maajid Nawaz and the Quilliam Foundation for defaming them as “anti-Muslim extremists.” The SPLC paid out $3.365 million to Nawaz over that.

In 2019, writing for Current Affairs, Nathan J. Robinson wrote that the organization “has long been dysfunctional,” and that the SPLC has displayed “some of the worst and most hypocritical tendencies in American liberalism.”

Alliance Defending Freedom states that while “The Southern Poverty Law Center was once a respected civil rights organization,” it has “degenerated into a discredited and scandal-ridden group that one of its own employees described as ‘a highly profitable scam.’ After winning some important cases, the SPLC devolved into a fear mongering, money-raising machine. Out of that effort the now discredited ‘hate map’ was born.” It is that “hate map” research that leads the SPLC to call traditionalist Catholics hatemongers, which in turn led to the FBI doing the same.

The document, dated January 23, 2023 from the FBI, is listed as unclassified and for official use only. It is titled “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities.”

It reads: “FBI Richmond assesses the increasingly observed interest of racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists (RMVEs) in radical-traditionalist Catholic (RTC) ideology almost certainly presents opportunities for threat mitigation through the exploration of new avenues for tripwire and source development. FBI Richmond makes this assessment with high confidence based on FBI investigations, local law enforcement agency reporting, and liaison reporting, with varying degrees of corroboration and access.

Kanye West ‘Ye” Lost $1.5 Billion, Was Threatened with Losing His Children and Institutionalization

Kanye West, who changed his name to Ye, lost an estimated $1.5 billion in business deals after Adidas dropped him and he was reportedly cancelled by Gap, Balenciaga and Def Jam Records as backlash for his remarks about Jewish people and power. Playdate with the kids won’t be the same.”

Summary by JW Williams

Kanye West, who changed his name to Ye, has appeared in a number of interviews, including a 3-hour interview on Drink Champs that has been banned, making “anti-Semitic” comments such as saying that Jared Kushner was Trump’s Israeli “handler”, criticizing Jewish power, Jewish control over music and entertainment, control over the media, unfair business contracts, and he tweeted, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” He called out George Soros to meet him directly instead of using his puppets in the “Jewish media” to attack him.

NBA Star Kyrie Irving Suspended by Team, Dropped by Nike for Linking to ‘Anti-Semitic’ Film

Last week, Kyrie Irving, an NBA player for the Brooklyn Nets, was questioned about a link he tweeted for the film Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, that is said to be anti-Semitic. The description on Amazon reads: “The Movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” uncovers the true identity of the Children of Israel by proving the true ethnicity of Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Sons of Ham, Shem & Japheth. Find out what Islam, Judaism and Christianity has covered up for centuries in regards to the true biblical identity of the so-called “Negro” in this movie packed with tons of research.” Days after the interview, the Nets announced that both Kyrie and the Nets would work with the ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) and would each pay $500,000 toward working “to eradicate hate.” The ADL says it will return Kyrie’s payment due to his failure to apologize and denounce anti-Semitism. The Brooklyn Nets later announced that they were suspending Kyrie for at least five games. Before the suspension, Kyrie was expected to earn $36 million this season. Nike has also suspended Kyrie, who makes a reported $11 million annually just from the Nike endorsement. Kyrie apologized on Thursday night. Following the controversy, the film became seller in multiple categories on Amazon. The ADL and the Nets have requested Amazon to remove it.

Kyrie Irving’s belated apology over a tweet deemed to be anti-Semitic is a ‘step in the right direction’ Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks said Friday, but not yet enough to end the star point guard’s minimum five-game suspension.

Marks addressed reporters at morning shootaround in Washington ahead of Friday’s game against the Wizards. The Nets executive and former San Antonio Spurs player suspended Irving on Thursday night for at least five games. The All-Star point guard will not be reinstated until he ‘satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct,’ according to a team statement.

Irving, who has been criticized for failing to apologize for last week’s inflammatory tweet, finally said he was sorry in a statement on Thursday, but only after he got his minimum five-game ban from the Nets.

While Marks considers the apology to be a good first step, the New Zealander stressed that he hopes to see Irving meet with Jewish leaders before he can return.

Trump Joins Rumble, Rumble Changes Terms of Service to Ban ‘Hateful’ Speech

Twitter suspended President Trump after he showed support for the Capitol protesters in early January. Andrew Torba, the CEO of Gab, a competitor to Twitter, revealed earlier this month that Donald Trump never joined Gab because Jared Kushner “specifically had problems with people [on the site] criticizing Jewish people, and Zionism, and policies related to Israel.” Torba said that he refused to compromise Gab’s free speech policies, which was a deal-breaker for Trump’s handlers. The day Trump joined Rumble, the video hosting platform changed their terms of service to ban posts that are “anti-semitic” and “hateful.” There is no mention of who will decide when something fits this category. -GEG

said during an interview with TruNews. “He called them Jew haters, I call them Jew criticizers.”

Torba said his refusal to “sell out” and “compromise on Gab’s free speech policies” was a deal-breaker for Kushner and Trump’s handlers which kept him from joining the site.

“Some of these people believe that anyone who criticizes or even has remotely any sort of criticism towards Jewish people or towards Israel or towards international policy, is all of a sudden an anti-Semite right, which is totally absurd on its face,” Torba continued.

“We’re a content-neutral platform. It’s a free speech platform,” Torba said. “So as long as you’re not saying anything illegal, as long as you’re not making threats of violence, you’re allowed to speak your mind and have an opinion about things.”

On Saturday, the day Trump joined Rumble, the video hosting platform changed their terms of service to ban posts that are “anti-semitic” and “hateful.”

Torba highlighted the policy change in a post on Gab:

It looks like Torba wasn’t exaggerating!

Jewish Man Arrested For Scrawling Anti-Semitic Graffiti On Brooklyn Synagogues

Brooklyn: Emil Benjamin, a 39-year old Jewish man, faces hate-crime charges for allegedly scrawling anti-Semitic messages on four synagogues and burglarizing one of them. The vandalism is being investigated as a hate crime.

The suspect who allegedly vandalized four synagogues in Brooklyn with anti-Semitic graffiti over the weekend has been identified as 39-year-old Emil Benjamin, who is a Jewish man from Brooklyn.

From the New York Daily News:

“A Jewish Brooklyn man faces hate crime charges for allegedly scrawling messages on four synagogues, and burglarizing one of them, during an hour-long crime spree.

Emil Benjamin, 39, was charged Thursday with burglary and criminal mischief as a hate crime in connection with the early Saturday spree.

Benjamin told the Daily News in 2011, after he was stabbed on a Brooklyn subway platform, that he’s a Kavkazi Jew.”

One of the biggest stories of 2017, which was hyped by the ADL and the media, was a string of over 245 bomb threats called into Jewish Community Centers throughout America.

The threats were used to harangue President Trump for “emboldening anti-Semites” and legislation was passed to increase funding and security grants to Jewish groups.

It turned out nearly all of the JCC bomb threats were carried out by “18 year old” Israeli-American Michael Ron David Kadar, who was found to have a bitcoin wallet worth millions of shekels (a few copycat threats were called in by African-American Juan Thompson).

Kadar was found guilty in Israel in June 2018 for the bomb threats and sentenced to ten years in prison.

In 2019, evidence was dug up by geneticist Franklin Stahl, Ph.D., a member of the National Academy of Science, suggesting that Kadar’s Israeli mother, Dr. Tamar Kadar, who is a chemical weapons researcher at the Mossad-operated Israeli Institute for Biological Research, may have been the real culprit behind the calls.

Sean Samitt Told Police He Was Stabbed for Being Jewish, But His Apple Watch Caught Him in a Lie. He Later Admitted His Wound Was Self-Inflicted

Bloomfield, Michigan: Sean Samitt, 26, told police he was in the parking lot where he worked as a cantor at a synagogue when he was attacked and stabbed in the abdomen by a man who blamed Jews for mass immigration. Suspecting Samitt’s wounds were self-inflicted, officers obtained surveillance footage and confirmed that no assault took place. Police said Samitt finally admitted to making up the attack and said he lost consciousness and accidentally stabbed himself while he was washing dishes at the synagogue. The second story also was fabricated. Officers were able to obtain information from Samitt’s cellphone health application that was synced to his Apple Watch, confirming he did not lose consciousness. Samitt then admitted to intentionally stabbing himself. He has been charged with falsely reporting a felony, which carries a potential sentence of four years. -GEG

A 26-year-old man faked his own stabbing at the West Bloomfield synagogue where he worked and then reported he was attacked because of his Jewish faith, authorities say.

Now Sean Samitt is facing a felony charge of filing a false police report, according to West Bloomfield Police.

Police said Samitt’s Apple Watch helped them solve the case.

Samitt was arrested on Dec. 20 and arraigned the same day before Magistrate Julie Nelson-Klein at the 48th District Court in Oakland Country on one count of falsely reporting a felony, a crime punishable up to four years. According to authorities, his $7,500 bond was posted by Samitt’s mother.

On Thursday, he appeared at the 48th District Court for a probable cause hearing. He is expected to appear for the preliminary examination on Jan. 14.

Samit reported he was attacked and stabbed in the abdomen by an unknown man in the parking lot at the Temple Kol Ami, where he worked as a cantorial soloist, which is a music director.

He reported the crime on Dec. 15, telling police that he was confronted about 7 p.m. as he was leaving work by a white male in his late 30s to early 40s.

Samitt said that the alleged attacker shouted, “You Jews!” and said “too many immigrants are here,” according to the police report obtained by the Free Press through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Samitt told officers that he was punched in the chest and abdomen during the encounter and he feared for his life, the report said. He said he escaped by kneeing the attacker in the groin and pushing him away, then drove himself to Henry Ford Hospital where a security staff called local authorities about the attack.

Police said officers searched the parking lot for a weapon, blood or any other piece of evidence but came back negative. K-9 officers were not able to locate a scent on the suspect.

While searching Temple Kol Ami, detectives found bloody tissues in Samitt’s office and the men’s bathroom. They also located a knife in the kitchen area with blood on the tip of the blade.

Suspecting Samitt’s wounds were self-inflicted, officers obtained surveillance footage from a house across the street and confirmed that no assault took place.

Police said Samitt admitted to making up the attack and said he lost consciousness and accidentally stabbed himself while he was washing dishes at the synagogue. He said he lied about the incident because he was being harassed at work about his medical condition.

The second story also turned out to be fabricated, police said.

Officers were able to obtain information from Samitt’s cellphone health application that was synced to his Apple Watch, confirming he did not lose consciousness. Samitt then admitted to intentionally stabbing himself.

“I put the knife in to see like just how deep it went because I wasn’t really sure then in the process I probably dug it in a little more.”

Trump Issued an Executive Order that Declares the Boycott Movement Against Israel Is Based, Not on Support for the Rights of Palestinians, But on Anti-Semitism

President Trump signed an executive order to make Jews on college campuses a “protected class” by expanding the legal classification of Jews to include them as having an Israeli national identity. The law states that the Education Department can take such action against any program that discriminates “on the ground of race, color or national origin”. This will allow the Education Department to pull funding from colleges that allow political movements that focus on the policies of the government of Israel. The order is intended to put a stop to to the Boycott, Divest and Sanction Israel movement that is popular on college campuses.

In response to the pro-Israel lobby in America, 27 states have passed laws attempting to curb the BDS movement.

President Trump plans to sign an executive order to combat anti-Semitism on college campuses by threatening to cut off federal funds to schools that don’t curb discrimination against Jewish students, according to a senior administration official.

The order, to be signed Wednesday, is designed to target the Boycott, Divest and Sanction Israel movement, popular on college campuses. The Trump administration—along with critics on the left and the right—has long argued BDS is a pernicious form of anti-Semitism akin to discrimination against racial minorities or women.

The order, first reported by The New York Times, would define discrimination against Jewish students as a form of bias against their shared national identity—Israel—rather than just a form of religious discrimination. Defining Judaism effectively as a form of national identity allows the Education Department to open civil rights investigations into schools that it deems not to be fostering an open climate for Jewish students. Under federal civil rights law, the Education Department doesn’t have the authority to crack down on any direct form of religious discrimination.

Critics of a tougher federal approach against BDS say the government is infringing on the free-speech rights of the movement’s supporters and essentially favoring Jewish students over Muslim students, who feel a crackdown on BDS is also discriminatory.

“It is designed to chill any kind of speech that is critical of Israel,” said Joe Cohn, legislative and policy director at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. “This would be unconstitutional.”

At least 27 states have passed laws attempting to curb the BDS movement, in part by requiring state contractors to sign pledges not to support it. Several of those laws have been struck down in federal courts as a violation of the First Amendment.

The president’s executive order is intended to achieve through administrative action what a long-stalled bill in Congress, the Anti-Semitism Awareness act, would have written into law. That bill has broad, bipartisan backing in Congress, though some Democrats and Republicans also oppose it on free-speech grounds.

The executive order also adopts a controversial definition of anti-Semitism from the State Department, which defines one form of it as “denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination” and cites opposition to Israel as an example of that behavior. Supporters of BDS and free-speech advocates fear that definition could allow the administration to go after any sort of criticism of Israel as a form of discrimination, with millions of dollars in federal funding at stake.

Rev. Al Sharpton Denies Inciting Violence and Making Racist and Anti-Semitic Statements in the Past, But Videos Prove Otherwise

US: Reverend Al Sharpton was giving testimony before a congressional panel when Congressman Matt Gaetz asked him whether he ever made racist and violent statements about Jews, white people, and policemen, statements which the Congressman quoted from news journals and other public records. Sharpton denied most of the quotes and acknowledged the others only to the extent that, if taken in context, he says they are not as bad as they seem. Video recordings attached to this report, however, show that the quotes are accurate and are about as racist and pro violence as they get. [The video of the hearing is disturbing, not so much for the offensive statements made by Sharpton, but for the sickening parliamentary process by which Sharpton’s protectors on the Committee interrupted the proceedings with points of order and other tactics to run out the clock to bring the Congressman’s questions to a halt.] -GEG

Wow.  Representative Matt Gaetz delivered a thorough evisceration of Al Sharpton today that will long be remembered.  Keep in mind that every Democrat candidate for President has kissed the ring of Sharpton in recent months.  Oh, the backfire in this hearing was over-the-top.  Chairman Nadler was so stressed out he couldn’t function.

The democrats on the House Judiciary Committee went absolutely bonkers and lost their minds as Gaetz continued to expose Sharpton’s history of bigotry and antisemitism.  A whole new generation of younger viewers were treated to the history of Sharpton.

This is epic. Major Hat Tip DaveNyiii for the video:

But wait, LOL, it gets better. Representative Jim Jordan yielded his time to his colleage, giving Mr. Gaetz a second round with Al Sharpton. Watch:
