Memphis, Tennessee: During a meeting organized by the Black Mayors’ Coalition on Crime, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones said, “We have a lot of violence around convenience stores and gas stations. So, how can we hold those business owners accountable and also bring down crime? And then, some of the things we’re already doing, we’re finding that other mayors are doing as well.” The plans are inspired by those used in Atlanta, Georgia that makes nightclub owners share liability for crimes on their premises.
In 2021, crime was rising in Atlanta and the mayor of Atlanta at the time, Keisha Lance Bottoms, led the ‘violent conduct nuisance ordinance’ in which a property may be declared a nuisance if multiple gunplay and violent incidents have occurred there over a two-year period and there are conditions on the property that foster violent crime and endanger public health and safety. If a business is given a citation to appear before a municipal judge, the business may be convicted of being a nuisance and can be shut down.
The Black Mayors’ Coalition meeting was closed to the public. It is a crime in itself for politicians in some jurisdictions to participate in secret meetings.
The reports about the secret meeting made zero mention of the failure of ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ that is soft on crime and includes bad policies such as defunding police, no-cash bail, reducing violent felonies to misdemeanors, early prison release and more. Many of the mayors in attendance are Democrats who support those leftist policies.
In 2023, St. Louis was ranked the third most dangerous city again behind Detroit, Michigan and also Baltimore, Maryland; all of the cities have a high black population or majority black population. Crime statistics have been manipulated: the less prosecutions, the less convictions, the lower the crime stats. Also, the FBI is not collecting complete crime statistics that has resulted in a drop in crime numbers nationally. From 2011 to 2021 prison populations dropped over 22%, despite the fact that criminal activity increased over the same period.
A critic noted that holding businesses responsible, rather than criminals, will drive business out of high-crime areas. Another said that is the goal.
Two years ago, gunshots interrupted a press conference with Mayor Tishaura Jones on violent crime.

How about charging all of city law enforcement and the politicians for violation of rights under color of law? (USC 18 sections 241 & 242)
The city has criminally disarmed its citizens and caused this crime wave and they should be charged for violating the 2nd amendment!
When will the mayor start holding the criminals accountable?
She / it would have to hold itself accountable too ?
HEY MAYOR, DON’T BLAME THE BUSINESS OWNERS, BLAME BIDENOMICS FOR THE VIOLENCE

A friend who manages a gas station/convenience store in “the hood” visited his local police station to ask how he could stem the recent flood of shoplifting (since Illinois’ “Safety Act” went into effect, you can now steal up to $1,000 before it’s a felony. In other words, “Help yourself”). The police told him, “The problem is YOU. You are not managing your store well.” And, just what options does my friend have when someone shoplifts? The police told him, “Do NOT call us about a shoplifter. Only call if someone is actually holding you up.” So we can all… Read more »
