Dr. Lustig said that in the 1960’s, the sugar industry paid $6,500 to Fred Stare, the chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, and his associate Mark Hegsted, who later became the head of the US Department of Agriculture, to exonerate sugar and instead blame saturated fat for negative health effects. They were paid to write false review articles in the New England Journal of Medicine that were peer reviewed.

He is WRONG, partly!
What is destroyed people’s health are the SEED OILS! Canola/Veg, Soy, Safflower, sunflower, peanut, and so on. Per Dr. Mercola, and other REAL Doctors!
Ones SUGAR needs to be NON GMO, ORGANIC, PURE CARE or RAW, and even then, to NOT use in high quantity.
He’s not ‘wrong’ he’s just addressing sugar not the seed oils which are of course bad too; they are both highly inflammatory. As to Dr Mercola, he’s only ‘right’ some times about some things. He’s right about seed oils, but some of his other recommendations are dead wrong. Eating dairy, eating liver are examples of unhealthy recommendations bc they contain WAY high amounts of “Vitamin” ‘A’ (don’t you know it’s Bill Gates favorite “vitamin”?). And ‘Vit A’ being fat soluble accumulates in your liver along with all the other ‘A’ from sources animal or plant ppl are consuming leading to… Read more »
Sugar truly is poison. I try to avoid it at all times in any form. Even fruit, potatoes, rice, etc. often need to be monitored. I agree with you about Dr. Mercola and his stance on oils, but I don’t think he is always correct in his observations.
raw honey unfiltered and/or raw coconut blossom sugar best in moderation.
Sugar is in so many things, have fun reading every single label in the stores and putting 95% of items back. I should know, my husband is diabetic. My Grammy and Mom were both sugar hounds and lived into their 80’s, I am not gonna sweat it, we have much bigger things to be concerned with when it comes to staying alive these days.
I find it is sugar + white flour that really messes with my system and makes me eat and eat way too much. A tiny bit of white sugar is no big deal. Sweet breads and cakes and pastrys? Ferget it! I challenge you to find ANY obese person that does NOT eat white flour. Tons of it. In addition to refined sugar.
I believe it! However I still think the sugar found naturally in fruits and honey is fine in moderation. People who “crave” sugar NEVER crave pure honey or fruits. Not so very addictive. Cancer loves sugar so much that doctors use colored glucose solution injections to help FIND cancer in the human body. Tumors suck it up . . . slurp slurp slurp!!
