Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz filed a motion against Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and eight hard-right Republicans joined 208 Democrats in supporting McCarthy’s removal, as 210 Republicans tried and failed to keep the speaker in place.

Gaetz sought McCarthy’s removal after the speaker worked with House Democrats to pass a stopgap spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, to extend government funding through November 17. Tuesday’s vote was the first to remove a House speaker in more than 100 years and the first successful such vote in American history.

Additional funding for Ukraine, a source of outrage on the right, was stripped from the bill. However, Gaetz accused McCarthy of cutting a “secret side deal” with Joe Biden on providing additional funding to Ukraine in the form of a stand alone bill set for a later date. McCarthy denied the existence of any secret deal.

Some Republican House members had condemned Gaetz in advance of the vote to oust McCarthy and raised concerns that the maneuver might cost Republicans their house majority.

Republican Representative Thomas Massie, a member of the House Rules Committee, said that McCarthy followed the rules and adhered to regular order. Massie vehemently opposed McCarthy’s ouster and said that McCarthy’s removal as Speaker is a referendum on the institution and that the institution would fail.

Massie pointed out the the massive $2-trillion COVID bill was passed by former President Trump and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, showing that Trump is not a fiscal conservative.

Some Republicans are considering Donald Trump for Speaker of the House.

Commentator Wayne Allen Root suggested that Trump should become the Speaker of the House as he would be able to lead the impeachment of Biden, lead the fight against open borders, and stop the funding of the Ukraine war. He said that Trump could stop any increase in the debt ceiling and defund the DOJ, FBI, CIA, IRS, and the Department of Education. Root said that due to Trump’s legal battles and campaign for president, it is highly unlikely that he  will accept the role as Speaker of the House.

Root suggested holding an official on-the-record vote for Donald J. Trump as House Speaker, whether he wants it, or not, to put every GOP Congressman officially on-the-record in a vote to flush out the RINO and “Never Trumpers” who can be voted out of office through a primary.

Unfortunately, Americans do not have a government that represents them are left to choose between the lesser evil.

Congress Moves Toward Automatic Registration for a Military Draft

June 21, 2024 AntiWar 8

A proposal expands required draft registration to young women. Another proposal is for automatic registration for young men only. The automatic registration would use data gleaned from the Social Security Administration, IRS, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, etc to identify and locate the young men.

I sincerely doubt the House GOP will lose its majority. All they have to do is stay lock step like the ( D ) communists.
