US Has Only a 25-Day Reserve Supply of Diesel Fuel as Winter Looms

The US has only a 25-day supply of diesel fuel. Diesel prices are above $5.00 a gallon nationwide. Trucking and home heating costs are expected to continue to rise this winter, cutting deeper into household budgets and further straining supply chains. The biggest reason for the shortage is due to the cut off of Russian exports as the US was importing nearly 700,000 barrels per day of petroleum products before imposing sanctions on Russia. Forbes reported that the market for distillates, including diesel, jet fuel ,and heating oil, won’t likely return to normal before next summer at the earliest.

The U.S. has only a 25-day supply of diesel fuel, lowest since 2008, just as demand is surging ahead of winter.

The report by the Energy Information Administration is raising concerns that trucking and home heating costs will continue to rise this winter, cutting deeper into household budgets and further straining supply chains.

The national average price of diesel as of Wednesday was at $5.31 a gallon — $1.70 more than last year.

White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese told Bloomberg TV Wednesday that diesel inventories are “unacceptably low” and “all options are on the table” to increase supply and lower prices. But it’s not clear what steps the administration can take.

The Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve, a component of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, has one million barrels of diesel in case of a disruption in supplies.

“We have looked very carefully at being prepared to deploy as and when necessary,” Mr. Deese said.

Republicans in Congress are warning of economic consequences and blaming the administration for short-sighted energy policies.

“The day the trucks stop running is the day the economy crashes,” tweeted Rep. Troy Nehls, Texas Republican. “And it’s not getting better anytime soon.”

Rep. Andy Biggs, Arizona Republican, said the shortage is a result of “Biden’s assault on fossil fuels.”

“This crucial fuel is used for transporting goods, farming, and military vehicles,” Mr. Biggs wrote on Twitter. “He is putting America Last and bringing us back to the stone age.”

Craig Fuller, a supply-chain media executive, said diesel is the second-highest cost for U.S. trucking companies, behind labor.
“This is horrible news heading into one of the worst freight markets in years,” Mr. Fuller tweeted.

The administration has tapped into the SPR to blunt rising gas prices in an election year, despite concerns that the move could leave the U.S. with fewer options in case of another national emergency.

Another possibility is for the U.S. to restrict diesel fuel exports. Petroleum industry groups warned against that step earlier this month.

“Banning or limiting the export of refined products would likely decrease inventory levels, reduce domestic refining capacity, put upward pressure on consumer fuel prices and alienate U.S. allies during a time of war,” the American Petroleum Institute and the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers wrote in a joint letter.

The Atlantic Calls For ‘Pandemic Amnesty’ to ‘Forgive One Another’ for Actions During COVID

The Atlantic magazine, which last year called for the unvaccinated to be put on the No-Fly List and treated like domestic terrorists, is now calling for a “pandemic amnesty” where everyone will “forgive one another” for what they “did and said” when they “were in the dark about COVID.” The author of the article who is calling for amnesty teaches a class about COVID policies at Brown University and advocated for COVID ‘vaccine’ requirements (aka vaccine passports) to travel, work and participate in society! People died from toxic experimental COVID jabs, endured lockdowns that ruined economies and caused massive job loss, were coerced to take COVID vaccines, mask mandates, discrimination and shaming. Vaccine mandates for employment and censorship continue to today.

David Knight pointed out that in order to rectify the injustice, ’emergency’ orders, especially the one issued by former President Trump, need to be terminated. He called for indictments of people who violated their oath to the Constitution, the restitution of stolen money and return of jobs, reforms to prevent tyrannical policies in the future, and terminating state laws modeled on the Emergency State Powers Act that allowed health officials to usurp power.

From The Atlantic:

Let’s Declare a Pandemic Amnesty

We need to forgive one another for what we did and said when we were in the dark about COVID.

In April 2020, with nothing else to do, my family took an enormous number of hikes. We all wore cloth masks that I had made myself. We had a family hand signal, which the person in the front would use if someone was approaching on the trail and we needed to put on our masks. Once, when another child got too close to my then-4-year-old son on a bridge, he yelled at her “SOCIAL DISTANCING!”

These precautions were totally misguided. In April 2020, no one got the coronavirus from passing someone else hiking. Outdoor transmission was vanishingly rare. Our cloth masks made out of old bandanas wouldn’t have done anything, anyway. But the thing is: We didn’t know.

were silenced, censored and smeared for it.

I have been reflecting on this lack of knowledge thanks to a class I’m co-teaching at Brown University on COVID. We’ve spent several lectures reliving the first year of the pandemic, discussing the many important choices we had to make under conditions of tremendous uncertainty.

Unsolved Mystery: Who Blew Up Nord Stream Pipelines?

The powerful mainstream media and politicians have blamed Russia for blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines while at the same time admitting there is zero evidence pointing to Russia as the culprit. Russia does not have a motive to damage its own pipelines from which it benefits. Top American politicians and officials from both parties have been filmed threatening the pipelines and stating that they will not be operational. Jeffrey Sachs, an economics professor, said, “I would bet (the explosion) was a US action, perhaps US and Poland,” he cited radar evidence that US military helicopters were circling over the explosion area and Biden’s threats against the pipes. Sachs further stated that we are not allowed to say things in the West that are counter to mainstream media narratives, and then the interview was cut off.

A Columbia University professor has accused the US of sabotaging the Nord Stream pipeline in the Baltic Sea, prompting television hosts to pull the plug on his TV interview.

Speaking with Bloomberg, Professor Jeffrey Sachs floated the idea the pipeline, which has been at the center of a global “whodunit” saga in recent weeks, was struck by the US — not Vladimir Putin’s forces — as a means of doing damage to Russia beyond economic sanctions.

The Nord Stream pipelines deliver natural gas directly from Russia to Germany and are essential to keeping the lights on across swaths of Europe.

The source of the explosions has remained a mystery, however, with both Moscow and Washington denying responsibility.

Western analysts have so far mostly pointed the finger at Russia as being responsible for the sabotage.

Sachs — a world-renowned economist and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University — was criticized for echoing a claim made by Russian authorities.

“A lot of the world is watching these events in horror,” Sachs said.

“They view this as a horrible clash between Russia and the US. They don‘t see this, as we do in the media, as an unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine.

“Most of the world doesn‘t see it the way we describe it. Most of the world is just terrified right now, frankly.

“I would bet (the explosion) was a US action, perhaps US and Poland,” he said.

Bloomberg host Tom Keene quickly interjected, asking Sachs to produce evidence for his claims.

“Jeff, we’ve got to stop there,” he said. “Why do you feel that was a US action? What evidence do you have of that?”

Sachs said radars detecting US helicopters in the area, coupled with key statements made by the White House regarding Russia’s stranglehold on European energy supplies, led him to make the conclusion.

“Well, first, there is direct radar evidence that US military helicopters that are normally based in Gdansk were circling over this area,” Sachs said.

“We also had the threat from (President Biden) earlier this year that ‘one way or another we are going to end Nord Stream.’

“We also had a remarkable statement from Secretary of State [Antony] Blinken last Friday in a press conference where he said ‘this is also a tremendous opportunity.’

“That’s a strange way to talk if you’re worried about piracy on international infrastructure of vital significance.”

Speaking in February, weeks before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden promised the US would “bring an end” to the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline if Russia crossed the border.

“If Russia invades — that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine — then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it,” Biden said at the time.

Sachs acknowledged his take “runs counter to our narrative” in the US and accused his nation’s media of neglecting the issue.

“I know it runs counter to our narrative, you‘re not allowed to say these things in the West, but the fact of the matter is all over the world when I talk to people, they think the US did it,” he said.

“Even reporters on our papers that are involved tell me ‘of course’ (the US did it), but it doesn’t show up in our media.”
