AG Merrick Garland Threatens Parents who Oppose Critical-Race Theory While his Son-in-Law Grows Rich from it

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced he was going to use the FBI to target parents with investigation who oppose critical-race theory (CRT) and speak against it at local school-board meetings. CRT promotes anti-white racism. It turns out the AG’s son-in-law is making lots of money selling the books used by schools to teach the racist theory. AG Garland has a huge conflict-of-interest, as his daughter, Rebecca Garland, is married to Alexander (Xan) Tanner, the co-founder of an education resource company, Panorama Education, that pushes critical-race theory – which angry parents across the country are protesting. Panorama also collects social and emotional data from students in grades K to 12. Panorama holds multimillion dollar contracts with school boards across the country. Critics say this is a “declaration of war” on parents and an intimidation of political opponents. -GEG

Attorney General Merrick Garland is under scrutiny after a parents group revealed that his daughter is married to the co-founder of an education company funded by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that allegedly employs critical race theory in its work, according to a report.

The disclosure comes as the attorney general announced on Monday that the FBI will help investigate increasing accounts of alleged threats against teachers and school board members in response to critical race theory being taught in schools — an action that critics slammed as a “declaration of war” on parents and intimidation of political opponents.

His daughter, Rebecca Garland, is married to Xan Tanner, the co-founder of Boston-based Panorama Education, a company that collects social and emotional data from students in grades K to 12, Fox News reported on Wednesday.

Asra Nomani, the vice president of investigations and strategy of Parents Defending Education, which opposes the Justice Department’s enforcement actions, tweeted about the connection.

“Merrick Garland has declared a war on parents,” Nomani posted on Tuesday. “His daughter is married to the cofounder of @PanoramaEd which is under fire for its multimillion contracts with school boards. At @DefendingEd, parents sent us tips. We raised the alarm. Now Garland is trying to silence parents.”

“Panorama Education will profit from Garland’s outrageous silencing of parents who are challenging its data mining of K-12 students,” she wrote on the group’s website.

Government Orders Google to Track Anyone Using Certain Names, Addresses, and Phone Numbers

An accidentally unsealed court document showed that the US government is reportedly secretly issuing “keyboard warrants” for Google to provide user data on anyone typing in certain search terms. Fears have been raised over the possibility that innocent online users could get caught up in serious crime investigations at a greater frequency than previously thought. It is not publicly disclosed how much users’ data is sent to the government and what the extent of the warrant requests are. This technique threatens First Amendment interests and will inevitably sweep up innocent people. Police are doing this in secret. -GEG

The U.S. government is reportedly secretly issuing warrants for Google to provide user data on anyone typing in certain search terms, raising fears that innocent online users could get caught up in serious crime investigations at a greater frequency than previously thought.

In an attempt to track down criminals, federal investigators have started using new “keyword warrants” and used them to ask Google to provide them information on anyone who searched a victim’s name or their address during a particular year, an accidentally unsealed court document that Forbes found shows.

Google has to respond to thousands of warrant orders each year, but the keyword warrants are a relatively new strategy used by the government and are controversial.

“Trawling through Google’s search history database enables police to identify people merely based on what they might have been thinking about, for whatever reason, at some point in the past,” Jennifer Granick, surveillance and cybersecurity counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union, told Forbes.

“This never-before-possible technique threatens First Amendment interests and will inevitably sweep up innocent people, especially if the keyword terms are not unique and the time frame not precise. To make matters worse, police are currently doing this in secret, which insulates the practice from public debate and regulation,” she added.

The government said that the scope of the warrants is limited to avoid implicating innocent people who happen to search for certain terms, but it’s not publicly disclosed how many users’ data are sent to the government and what the extent of the warrant requests are.

Google has defended its decision to respond to the warrants and said it protects users when doing so.

Colorado: Hospital System Says it Will Deny Transplants to Unvaccinated People

Colorado Springs: UCHealth system says it is denying organ transplants to patients not vaccinated against the coronavirus in “almost all situations,” citing studies that show these patients are much more likely to die if they get Covid-19. Leilani Lutali, who has chronic kidney disease, is set to be removed from the transplant list at UCHealth, even though she has a willing donor because both are unvaccinated, a policy on which UCHealth won’t budge. Lutali received a letter last week notifying her ro place placed as inactive on the waiting list and if she would refuse the COVID-19 vaccination then she would be removed from the kidney transplant list altogether. Lutali claims she already had COVID-19 and won’t get the vaccine because of religious concerns and also because the vax would not be effective after receiving immunosuppressant drugs post-surgery. -GEG

A Colorado Springs woman who shook shoain, is waiting on a life-saving surgery will be taken off the transplant list at UCHealth due to her vaccination status.

400,000 Migrants Expected to Enter the US in October. Republican Governors Hope to Slow the Surge

Trump invoked Title 42 to rapidly deport migrant families apprehended at the US-Mexico border at the beginning of the so-called Coronavirus pandemic. Then a court ruled that Title 42 could no longer be used, prompting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to ask top DHS officials if they were prepared for up to 400,000 people to try to enter the US in October. Then, an appeals court in Washington overturned the ban on Title 42, but the Biden administration countered by appealed the ruling. Customs and Border Protection apprehended 213,534 migrants at the border in July and 208,887 in August, a 21-year high. Panama’s foreign minister warned in an interview that up to 60,000 migrants, many of Haitian origin, are passing through the Central American country bound for the US. Meanwhile, Republican governors released a 10-point border security plan that includes keeping Title 42, resuming deportation of all foreign criminals, and terminating the “catch and release” policy. Many of the governors have deployed their own state National Guard troops to the Texas border and want the federal government to reimburse them for those costs. -GEG

A federal appeals court in Washington ruled Thursday that the Biden administration can continue to use a Trump-era public health authority to rapidly deport migrant families apprehended at the US-Mexico border.

The ruling puts a hold on a judge’s order that the White House no longer use the COVID-19 pandemic to justify quick expulsions of families under the public health authority, known as Title 42.

US District Judge Emmet Sullivan wrote in his Sept. 16 ruling that “in view of the wide availability of testing, vaccines, and other minimization measures, the Court is not convinced that the transmission of COVID-19 during border processing cannot be significantly mitigated.”

The appeals court’s decision came hours after NBC News reported that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had asked top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials whether they were prepared for up to 400,000 people to try to enter the US in October if Sullivan’s order was upheld.

That number would nearly double the 213,534 migrants Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehended at the frontier in July, as well as the 208,887 encountered in August.

Those two months marked the first time that more than 200,000 illegal immigrants attempted to cross into the US from Mexico in consecutive months since February and March of 2000.

Francis Collins, NIH Director, Resigns after Gain-of-Function Falsehood Exposed

Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health, announced his resignation just weeks after the Intercept exposed documents showing that he made “untruthful” comments about US federal funding of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Collins frequently appeared on television where he called for children to wear masks in schools while blaming unvaccinated Americans for continuation of the so-called Covid pandemic. Collins advised religious Americans who are hesitant about the Coronavirus vaccine to think of it as a miraculous answer to their prayers. -GEG

Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announced his resignation on Tuesday, just weeks after documents exposed that he made “untruthful” comments about U.S. federal funding of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“It has been an incredible privilege to lead this great agency for more than a decade,” Collins said in a statement posted at the NIH website.

I love this agency and its people so deeply that the decision to step down was a difficult one, done in close counsel with my wife, Diane Baker, and my family. I am proud of all we’ve accomplished. I fundamentally believe, however, that no single person should serve in the position too long, and that it’s time to bring in a new scientist to lead the NIH into the future. I’m most grateful and proud of the NIH staff and the scientific community, whose extraordinary commitment to lifesaving research delivers hope to the American people and the world every day.

Just weeks before this announcement, Richard Ebright of Rutgers University accused Collins of making false public statements about National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) grants to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which have since been proven to fund the study of “chimeric SARS-related coronaviruses” which “could infect human cells.” Ebright said bluntly that Collins had not told the truth when asked about this research: “assertions by the NIH Director, Francis Collins, and the NIAID Director, Anthony Fauci, that the NIH did not support gain-of-function research or potential pandemic pathogen enhancement at WIV are untruthful.”

Appointed by President Obama in 2009, Francis Collins made history by becoming the longest-serving NIH director and one who also served in three administrations: Obama, Trump, and Biden. Prior to his tenure at the NIH, he founded The BioLogos Foundation, which aimed to bridge a dialogue between science and religion. In 2007, former President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work on the Human Genome Project.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Collins frequently appeared on television where he advocated for children wearing masks in schools while blaming unvaccinated Americans for the pandemic’s continuation.
