The federal government has lost contact with around 5,000 out of almost 15,000 children who were released into the interior of the US between January and May. Sponsors no longer have to get fingerprinted to claim a child. Almost anyone who doesn’t flag as a violent felon and claims to be a relative can claim a child.
Texas passed a “heartbeat” law that effectively bars most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, the time of gestation when a heartbeat can be detected. The law also empowers individuals to file lawsuits against abortion providers or anyone who “aids or abets” the procedures after the detection of a heartbeat.
