Texas: Jackson Reffitt, an 18-year-old college student, said his father, Guy Reffitt, is part of a far-right militia group and that his views have become radicalized over the years. He admitted to contacting the FBI after the Capitol riots about his father. As a result, Guy Reffitt, 48, is accused of obstruction of justice and unlawful entry at the Capital. Jackson told the FBI his father previously said, “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor and you know what happens to traitors…traitors get shot.” Jackson’s mother said her husband is “super passionate” and sometimes says things he doesn’t mean.
On the same day Jackson was interviewed on CNN by Chris Cuomo – brother of New York’s Governor – he set up the Jackson Reffitt college fund on GoFundMe, which now has donations of more than $138,000. He set up the funding page after people asked to donate to him. Jackson wrote, “I might be kicked out of my house due to my involvement in my dad’s case, so every cent might help me survive.”
[This is a complex case involving a conflict of ideals, but the one thing needed to put it into perspective is missing from the story. We are told that the dad had extremist far-right views, but we are denied any understanding of what views were held by the boy except that he was repelled by his father’s ideals. Does that mean that the boy’s ideals were virtuous? Or could they have been extremist far-left? All we know is that the boy and his father had opposite views. If the boy’s views are far-left, they would be repugnant to most people of good will, and the story then would take on a different flavor. One more thing is missing, and that is the alleged crime committed by the father. He is charged with obstruction of justice and unlawful entry at the Capital, but did he actually do these things? No one even asks that question? It’s an important question because we know that the government is accusing almost anyone of committing these crimes who was known to be at the rally that day no matter what they did. Videos show that capitol police were actually escorting throngs of peaceful and orderly demonstrators into the capitol building like they were tourists. All the violence and property damage were committed by guys in black suits and boots who we now know were Antifa mercenaries with American flags and MAGA caps. As far as we know, none of those criminals were ever charged with anything, but genuine Trump supporters were charged with obstruction of justice and unlawful entry at the Capital. Would this boy have turned in his father if he had been Antifa or BLM?] -GEG
