Historic Victory!  Senate Votes to Stop US Support in Saudi Arabia’s War in Yemen

The resolution that expressed congressional disapproval against the US-backing of Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen passed 56-41, over the objections of many establishment Republicans, but with strong support from conservatives like Senators Rand Paul and Senator Mike Lee, as well as from leftists like Senator Bernie Sanders.  Rand Paul said that since he has entered public office, he has spoken out against Congress’ abdication of its constitutional responsibilities in foreign policy.  This is the first time Congress has invoked the War Powers Act to vote to end support for war since Vietnam.  Bloomberg reported that a bipartisan group of senators say they’ll try again in 2019 to enact stronger legislation to cut off arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

In a historic action, Senate has voted to end US involvement and support for the war in Yemen — the first time they have voted us out of war since Vietnam.

On Thursday, Senate voted 56-41 to pass S.J. Res. 54 and end support for Saudi Arabia’s war on Yemen.

In a statement, Senator Rand Paul — a long time critic of US support for the war in Yemen — praised Senate’s action.

“Today, in an historic vote, the Senate sent a clear message to Saudi Arabia that we will not turn a blind eye to their abuse of human rights, killing of dissidents and innocent Yemenis, and fueling of a humanitarian crisis. Since entering the Senate, I have spoken out against Congress’ abdication of its constitutional responsibilities in foreign policy, and I have worked across the aisle to help build the bipartisan consensus that made its voice loudly heard today. I will continue working to ensure that today’s victory is just the beginning of a long-awaited change in how Congress operates,” Senator Paul said in a statement.

A press release from Senator Paul’s office noted that over the past five years, Dr. Paul has spoken out and led multiple bipartisan efforts against U.S. involvement in Yemen. “Most recently, in November, he forced a procedural vote on his resolution that would have blocked the sale of an estimated $300 million in high-explosive rocket artillery and associated training and support to Bahrain, a member of the Saudi-led coalition waging the war in Yemen.”

China Is Data Mining Directly from the Brains of Workers

YOURCOMMENTSHERE

China is deploying emotional surveillance technology that mines data from the minds of its citizens. Essentially, they’re data mining by reading their brains.

The light-weight sensory helmets have been rolled out on an industrial scale. The mind data-mining and emotional surveillance programs are eerily similar to trends in the United States to monitor and probe the mental health of its citizens through facial recognition.

This past spring, Facebook landed in hot water over a data leak which felt like a major privacy violation to millions of its users…

…But China was taking data mining to the next level.

Around the same time, however, China quietly reported that its government is openly fishing data from workers’ minds: making a Facebook leak pale in comparison.

South Morning China Post describes a typical production line at Hangzhou Zhongheng Electric and reports:

[…]the workers wear caps to monitor their brainwaves, data that management then uses to adjust the pace of production and redesign workflows, according to the company.

The company said it could increase the overall efficiency of the workers by manipulating the frequency and length of break times to reduce mental stress.

Hangzhou Zhongheng Electric is just one example of the large-scale application of brain surveillance devices to monitor people’s emotions and other mental activities in the workplace, according to scientists and companies involved in the government-backed projects.

The wireless sensors are concealed under a normal uniform hat and constantly monitor brain waves while sending the data back into main computers that use AI algorithms to detect any unpleasant emotional spikes such as “depression, anxiety or rage.”

Congressman-Elect, Who Also Is A Doctor, Says He’s Worried That Vaccines May Cause Autism

Mark Green, who is a doctor, will take office in the US House of Representatives in January and says that vaccines may cause autism. He will push the CDC to release data on vaccines linking to autism and says the CDC has “fraudulently managed” the data between vaccines and autism. Speaking out against vaccines has damaged political careers in the past. -GEG

Republican Rep.-elect Mark Green alleged Tuesday that vaccines may cause autism, rejecting data from the Centers for Disease Control maintaining that a relationship between the two does not exist.

“[T]here is some concern that the rise in autism is the result of the preservatives that are in our vaccines,” Green said at a town hall Tuesday night in Tennessee, the Nashville Tennessean reported. He added that he would push the CDC to release data on vaccines linking to autism.

The CDC has “fraudulently managed” the data between vaccines and autism, the incoming Tennessee congressman also charged, according to the Tennessean.

“As a physician, I can make that argument and I can look at it academically and make the argument against the CDC, if they really want to engage me on it,” Green said.

Green is a physician and a veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division.

The CDC maintains that there is no relationship between vaccinations and autism.

“Many studies have looked at whether there is a relationship between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To date, the studies continue to show that vaccines are not associated with ASD,” the CDC wrote on a research page updated April 26.

Trump’s Former Attorney Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

A US judge sentenced Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to 36 months in prison for a variety of crimes that include tax evasion, bank fraud, and making illegal ‘campaign contributions’ by means of his payments to Stormy Daniels, who alleges she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

In a separate case, American Media Inc. (AMI), the parent company of the National Enquirer, was given immunity in return for its testimony. Prosecutors alleged that the media outlet purchased the stories of Trump’s lovers and then buried them at Trump’s behest in exchange for payment.  AMI admitted that it paid $150,000 to Karen MacDougal for her story in order to ensure that she did not publicize damaging allegations about the candidate before the 2016 presidential election. -GEG

On Wednesday, President Trump’s case against an indictment on the basis of campaign finance violations became much more difficult. Michael Cohen, the president’s personal attorney for years including the 2016 campaign, was sentenced to three years in prison – and his sentencing included an open acknowledgment by Cohen that he had directed hush payments to former Trump paramour Stormy Daniels with an eye toward affecting the 2016 election.

Judge William H. Pauley III said Cohen had committed a bevy of crimes with an eye toward deception. Cohen, for his part, threw himself on the mercy of the court, stating, “I blame myself for the conduct which has brought me here today, and it was my own weakness and blind loyalty to [President Trump] that led me to choose a path of darkness over light.” He added, “time and time again I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds rather than to listen to my own inner voice and my moral compass.”

More damaging than Cohen’s open-court mea culpa, though, was the prosecution’s announcement that they had reached a non-prosecution agreement with American Media Inc., the parent company of the National Enquirer – the entity Cohen attempted to use to silence Karen McDougal. AMI would purchase the stories of Trump’s lovers and then bury them at Trump’s behest; Cohen would then attempt to reimburse AMI, so the allegations go. According to prosecutors, “AMI admitted that it made the $150,000 payment in concert with a candidate’s presidential campaign, and in order to ensure that [Karen MacDougal] did not publicize damaging allegations about the candidate before the 2016 presidential election. AMI further admitted that its principal purpose in making the payment was to suppress the woman’s story so as to prevent it from influencing the election.”

This evidence could be used to make the case that Cohen’s payment to Daniels was indeed an unreported campaign expenditure; Trump was allegedly attempting to clean up his messes just before the election. While Cohen didn’t use AMI to silence Daniels, representatives of AMI were the first to notify Cohen of Daniels’ intent to go public, according to prosecutors. All of this undercuts the case Trump could make that he paid hush money on a regular basis outside of election circumstances. Trump will now have to claim that both AMI and Cohen are lying about such expenditures representing illegal campaign allocations, and that they’ve caved to the pressure of rogue prosecutors.

A protester dressed as Rich Uncle Pennybags (‘Monopoly Man’) attended the Congressional hearing and said, “Google spent $18-million lobbying politicians in 2017 — more than any other company. In return, Congress abandoned its oversight role and allowed Google to wield monopoly power over every person who uses the internet.”  The activist, Ian Madrigal, was formerly named Amanda Weaver and is a strategy director for Revolution Messaging, a firm run by Keegan Goudiss, who was Bernie Sanders’ director of digital advertising during the 2016 election. -GEG
