Make Them Scared UW’ Website Publicly Names Young Men Accused of Sexual Assault.  Defamation Lawsuits to Follow.

A website created by University of Washington students, Make Them Scared UW, allows users to anonymously post the names of men who have allegedly committed sexual assault, without any meaningful verification system, which could lead to defamation lawsuits for accusing people of crimes without any evidence.  The website currently has 41 accusations of sexual assault or harassment.  Students at Columbia University did something similar by posting the names of accused students on bathroom walls. One of the named students was Paul Nungesser, who was cleared of rape charges and then sued Columbia and received an undisclosed settlement.

A website created by University of Washington students allows users to anonymously post the names of men who have allegedly committed sexual assault — an act that could land the site’s administrators in legal hot water.

The website, called “Make Them Scared UW,” does not vet the accusations posted to the website in any meaningful way, and some moderators told UW’s student newspaper, The Daily, they want more information from accusers. But the creators of the site certainly want to vilify men who may or may not have actually committed sexual assault, but say they designed the website to be another resource for accusers.

“Our goal is simple: we want to make the world a safer place for people vulnerable to sexual attacks, beginning with college campuses,” the moderators told The Daily. “We want to give victims a sense of justice and rest that other avenues deny them.”

These moderators also say they “verified each claim to the best of our ability, and have not published any claims which we believed to be false.” They also say that anyone whose name is published “inaccurately” can let them know so they “can remedy the situation.”

Eight names were published on September 26. As of October 1, the website had “41 accusations of sexual assault or harassment,” according to The Daily. Several names have been removed.

The allegations, according to The Daily, cover a wide range of acts. Some people are simply named with an allegation, other posts include where the accused works or their campus affiliations. Many of the posts say the accusation was not reported. The website isn’t even limited to accusing UW students, either.

So, this website allows anonymous accusations against named people, with no meaningful verification and without any requirement or avenue to report the incident to someone who could actually do something about it. They’re channeling Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

As one might conclude, anonymously accusing someone of a crime without any evidence to back it up could result in a defamation lawsuit.

Zahr Said, an associate professor at the UW School of Law, told The Daily about the risks associated with such a website.

“They’re facing considerable risks of a defamation lawsuit by anyone whose name they mention in connection with a criminal behavior or sexual assault that gives rise to civil liability,” Said said. “So, the very worst possible situation for them, from a liability perspective, is what they’re doing.”

An Explanation for the Two Doors at the Home of Christine Blasey Ford and Other Mysteries Revealed

The truth cat makes a case for casting doubt on the claims of Christine Blasey Ford: none of her witnesses corroborated her story, she didn’t remember who invited her to the party or how she got back to her home seven miles away.  In addition, she has refused to hand over her therapist’s notes to the GOP and FBI.  Blasey Ford claimed that she remodeled her home to include a second front door because she felt claustrophobic as a result of the alleged incident with Kavanaugh in the 1980s.  According to a 2008 home renovation magazine, Blasey Ford added a new bathroom and bedroom to her home, along with a second door.  Zoning laws require a separate entrance door in order to rent out the basement, but it appears she did not get the permits, which would potentially make the modifications to her home illegal.  However, there is a loophole for victims of sexual assault who suffer from anxiety, which requires only a note from a therapist.

Portland: Angry Leftists Took Over an Intersection and Attacked an Elderly Gentleman’s Car as He Tried to Escape the Crowd of Protesters

Portland, Oregon was the scene of another leftist protest that resulted in violence and property damage as a man slowly drove through the crowd, trying to escape as they clubbed his car.  The protest was against the police department that reportedly shot a black man, Patrick Kimmons, who had allegedly been involved in a shootout involving at least two other men.

Update:  Portland police  are calling for the protesters who blocked a man driving the silver Lexus to come forward and press charges against him despite the fact that the demonstrators were illegally occupying the intersection and jumped in front of his car, later attacking the vehicle.  The entire incident took place literally one block away from police central precinct headquarters, and not a single uniformed officer was dispatched to quell the unruly mob.

Summary by JW Williams
.
Portland: An elderly gentleman driving a Lexus tried to escape from protesters blocking the road and slowly drove through the crowd as they attacked his car, shattering windows  and causing $3,000 in damage.  An Antifa group identified as ‘Portland Resistance’ used the man’s license plate to identify and dox him, posting his home address on the internet.  News outlets that favor the left claimed the man “plowed” through the crowd.  The police monitored the crowd but did not take any action.
.
Activists were also filmed shouting ‘white supremacist’ and ‘whitey’ at one driver, before they attacked the car of the man trying to escape.
.
The crowd, organized by Don’t Shoot Portland, a group similar to Black Lives Matter, was protesting against the Portland Police Department as Patrick Kimmons, 27, a black man, was reportedly shot and killed by police officers on September 30th.  His family claims he was shot in the back and was running away from police.  The officers say they were responding to gunfire when they shot Kimmons, who they claim was armed.  Two other people, believed to be involved in the brawl before police arrived, received medical care in a hospital for gunshot wounds.  Kimmons has a police record, and the mother of two of his children said that he was involved in gangs.
.
Portland residents are furious that the protesters took over an intersection and abused drivers while directing traffic and they are blaming Mayor Ted Wheeler for for allowing anarchy on the streets.

Ron Paul Says Trump’s New Trade Treaty that Replaces NAFTA Actually Increases Government Control

Ron Paul analyzed Trump’s new treaty, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and found that the USMCA expands government control over trade.  For example, it requires 75% of car parts to be made in North America, which will raise car prices on those using materials outside of North America, it requires auto workers to earn at least $16 per hour, which will increase prices, and it forces Mexico to import US-style compulsory unionism.  The new USMCA entangles all three countries in environmental standards and monetary policy.  A true free trade deal would simply reduce or eliminate tariffs and other trade barriers. It would not dictate wages and labor standards, or require inter-governmental cooperation on environmental standards and monetary policy.

Last week the United States, Mexico, and Canada agreed to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with a new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Sadly, instead of replacing NAFTA’s managed trade with true free trade, the new USMCA expands government’s control over trade.

For example, under the USMCA’s “rules of origin,” at least 75 percent of a car’s parts must be from the US, Canada, or Mexico in order to avoid tariffs. This is protectionism designed to raise prices of cars using materials from outside North America.

The USMCA also requires that 40 to 45 percent of an automobile’s content be made by workers earning at least 16 dollars per hour. Like all government-set wages, this requirement will increase prices and decrease employment.

The USMCA also requires Mexico to pass legislation recognizing the “right of collective bargaining.” In other words, this so-called free trade agreement forces Mexico to import US-style compulsory unionism. If the Mexican legislature does not comply, the US and Canada will impose tariffs on Mexican goods.

The USMCA also requires the three countries to abide by the International Labour Organization (ILO) standards for worker rights. So, if, for example, the bureaucrats at the ILO declared that Right to Work laws violate “international labor standards”’ because they weaken collective bargaining and give Right to Work states an unfair advantage over compulsory unionism states and countries, the federal government may have to nullify all state Right to Work laws.

The USMCA also obligates the three countries to work together to improve air quality. This sounds harmless but could be used as a backdoor way to impose costly new regulations and taxes, such as a cap-and-trade scheme, on America.

This agreement also forbids the use of currency devaluation as a means of attempting to gain a competitive advantage in international trade. Enforcement of this provision will be difficult if not impossible, as no central bank will ever admit it is devaluing currency to obtain a competitive advantage in international trade. Of course, given that the very act of creating money lowers its value, the only way to stop central banks from devaluing currency is to put them out of business. Sadly, I don’t think the drafters of the USMCA seek to restore free-market money.

The currency provision will likely be used to justify coordination of monetary policy between the Federal Reserve and the Mexican and Canadian central banks. This will lead to region-wide inflation and a global currency war as the US pressures Mexico and Canada to help the Fed counter other countries’ alleged currency manipulation and challenges to the dollar’s reserve currency status.

A true free trade deal would simply reduce or eliminate tariffs and other trade barriers. It would not dictate wages and labor standards, or require inter-governmental cooperation on environmental standards and monetary policy. A true free trade deal also would not, as the USMCA does, list acceptable names for types of cheeses.

Those of us who support real free trade must not let supporters of the USMCA get away with claiming the USMCA has anything to do with free trade. We must also fight the forces of protectionism that are threatening to start a destructive trade war. Also, we must work to stop the government from trying to control our economic activities through regulations, taxes, and (most importantly) control of the currency through central banking and legal tender laws.

Google Hid User Data Breach from Public Out of Fear Congress Would Take Action

Google failed to inform hundreds of thousands of Google + social network users about the exposure of their private data, as the company feared the news would invite scrutiny and  regulation, according to the Wall Street Journal.  A ‘software glitch’ gave outside developers potential access to private Google + profiles that included users’ names, email addresses, birthdays, genders, general locations, occupations, relationship statuses, and photos beginning in 2015 up through March 2018.  Google is now shutting down Google +.

Google failed to inform its users about the exposure of their private data for fear of the news inviting regulation and comparisons to Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Google exposed the private data of hundreds of thousands of users of the Google+ social network and then opted not to disclose the issue this past spring, in part because of fears that doing so would draw regulatory scrutiny and cause reputational damage, according to people briefed on the incident and documents reviewed,” reported the Wall Street Journal, Monday. “As part of its response to the incident, the Alphabet Inc. unit plans to announce a sweeping set of data privacy measures that include permanently shutting down all consumer functionality of Google+.”

The incident, which exposed users’ names, email addresses, birthdays, genders, general locations, occupations, relationship statuses, and photos, was reportedly caused by a “software glitch” in Google+ which “gave outside developers potential access to private Google+ profile data between 2015 and March 2018, when internal investigators discovered and fixed the issue.”

Google’s legal and policy team, however, made it clear to the company’s executives that sharing information of the data exposure with the public would create “immediate regulatory interest” at a time when Google was, and still is, facing an increasing amount of calls for regulation from activists, politicians, organizations, and data experts.

The Wall Street Journal also claimed Google didn’t want to “invite comparisons to Facebook’s leak of user information to data firm Cambridge Analytica.”

In response to the story, BuzzFeed News tech reporter Ryan Mac declared, “The story here isn’t really the potential data breach (which may affected hundreds of thousands) or that Google is shutting down Google+. It’s that Google’s execs knowingly avoided disclosing an issue because they knew it’d invite gov scrutiny & bad PR.”

California DMV Admits to Adding Non-Citizens to Voter Rolls – Lawmaker Says the Cover-Up Is Unraveling

California: An internal DMV audit showed that 1,500 non-residents may have been registered to vote in error.  California has issued over a million driver’s licenses to illegal aliens over the past three years.  Last month, the DMV admitted sending 23,000 erroneous voter registrations to the Secretary of State.  The Election Integrity Project California showed last year that a list of 11 California counties that have more registered voters than voting-age citizens!  Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson was furious and stated that this is probably only the tip of the iceberg.

Assemblyman Jim Patterson, R-Fresno, is furious at California’s DMV,calling the situation “the unraveling of a cover-up,” after an internal audit released today shows about 1,500 customers may have been improperly registered to vote.

The Sacramentao Bee reports that the DMV wrote, in a letter Monday to the Secretary of State’s Office, that:

“Approximately 1,500 customers may have been registered to vote in error.

This error has been corrected and is separate from the processing error we notified you about in writing on September 5.”

In September, The California DMV said it has discovered it sent the Secretary of State’s Office 23,000 erroneous voter registrations.

“We are committed to getting this right and are working closely with the Secretary of State’s office to correct the errors that occurred,” DMV Director Jean Shiomoto said in a statement.

And now, as Sacbee reports, these additional 1,500 errors occurred when DMV technicians processed customer requests at field offices to change voter eligibility responses on driver license applications.

While the 1500 customers added to voter rolls are non-citizens, the DMV claims that none of them are illegal immigrants.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla responded with a harsh letter to the state’s DMV and Department of Technology.

I remain deeply frustrated and disappointed that persistent errors by the DMV and CDT have undermined public confidence in your basic responsibility to collect and transmit accurate voter registration information, as has been required by federal law for 25 years.”

As a reminder, California has issued over a million driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants over the past three years.

With mistakes like this being discovered by internal audit, one can only imagine what isn’t being discovered; but for sure it goes a long way to explain how The Election Integrity Project California showed last year that a list of 11 California counties that have more registered voters than voting-age citizens.
