Villegas’ wife is suffering from serious injuries to her chest, and their children have been placed in protective custody. Villegas has a criminal history in the US that includes possession of a controlled substance and drunk driving. Villegas was apprehended the day after the attack in a stolen vehicle that he tried to ram into a police car when they were chasing him.
